Chaos in Lagos as policeman stabs soldier to death

There was pandemonium in Lagos State on Wednesday after a yet-to-be-identified policeman allegedly stabbed a soldier to death.

According to reports gathered by ValidViewNetwork, the event took place on Wednesday in Lagos near the Odogunyan axis of Ikorodu.

The soldier in question, who was reportedly fatally stabbed, was reportedly wearing mufti when the incident took place.

The Ogijo police station was reportedly the target of a retaliation attack by the soldier’s co-workers. Odogunyan and Ogijo are border towns between the states of Lagos and Ogun, and they are separated by a few kilometers.

Residents of the border communities were reportedly disturbed by the incident.

Speaking on the event, Abimbola Oyeyemi, Ogun police spokesperson, told newsmen that the command is seeking to uncover the motive for the attack on Ogijo police station in Ogun state when the altercation happened in Lagos.

Oyeyemi added that the matter is being looked into and that the commanding officer of a nearby military camp has been notified.

“The crux of the incident is still sketchy,” he said. “The information I gathered from the DPO in that axis was that there was an issue between a soldier and a mobile policeman at Odogunyan in Ikorodu, Lagos state.

“The incident happened in Ikorodu, which is in Lagos state. The reason why soldiers now came to attack the police station in Ogijo, which is in Ogun state, is what I’m still trying to find out.”

When asked if the police station had been destroyed as had been claimed on social media, the Ogun police spokesman said that it had not been destroyed, but that patrol cars and an armored personnel carrier had been burned.

Benjamin Hundeyin, the spokesperson for the Lagos police, responded to the incident in a tweet by saying that officers are on high alert to prevent a breakdown of law and order.

“There are stories making the rounds that riots have broken out in Odonguyan, Ikorodu,” Hundeyin wrote.

“We wish to clarify that the unrest is at Ogijo, Ogun State, though very close to Ikorodu, Lagos.

“Our officers are at alert & would not allow any breakdown of law and order within Lagos State.”
