The Bayelsa State government has entered a landmark partnership with Dubai-based JAMPUR Group to establish solar panel and smart electric meter manufacturing plants within the state, with an investment valued at $3 million fully financed by the conglomerate. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed by Bayelsa State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Biriyai Dambo, SAN, on behalf of the government, and Bello Abdulahi for JAMPUR Group.

Governor Douye Diri expressed his enthusiasm over the collaboration, emphasizing JAMPUR’s reputation as a globally recognized investor already supplying power solutions to Abuja and Lagos international airports. He highlighted the project’s potential to transform Bayelsa into an energy hub serving not only the state but also the wider Niger Delta region, Nigeria, and the Gulf of Guinea. The governor noted the company’s previous role in supplying and installing the state’s recently procured 60MW gas turbines, demonstrating the deepening relationship between the group and the state government.

The initiative aims to provide solar panels and smart meters locally, ending the frequent need for Nigerians to import these vital energy components from abroad. The smart meters are expected to reduce conflicts between power suppliers and consumers by enabling automatic disconnection for non-payment. Governor Diri charged the state’s Ministry of Power and the Bayelsa State Electricity Company to ensure that local youths receive training in technical skills related to this new renewable energy sector, enabling them to be self-reliant and actively participate in the industry.

JAMPUR Group Chairman, Mohammed Shafiq, revealed that the MoU includes three project components: a smart meter production plant, a solar panel factory, and a fertilizer blending plant. He assured that work on the metering plant would begin before the end of 2025. The Governor assured JAMPUR Group of the state government’s cooperation and commitment to create an enabling environment for these projects to thrive, describing this development as a milestone aligned with Bayelsa’s ASSURED Prosperity Agenda.
The establishment of these factories not only welcomes major foreign investment at no cost to the government but also promises to generate employment and contribute significantly to the economic and energy landscape of Bayelsa State and the broader region .
