Five suspects have been apprehended by detectives of the Ilasan Division of the Lagos State Police Command for their involvement in the armed snatching of a Toyota Corolla and its subsequent sale for ₦500,000. The buyer of the stolen vehicle was also arrested in a parallel operation.
The incident occurred on August 1, 2025, when a taxi driver was flagged down by three men along Platinum Way in the Jakande area of Lekki, Lagos. During the ride, one of the suspects brandished a locally made pistol, forcibly removed the driver from his black Toyota Corolla, and fled with the vehicle.
Following a swift and intelligence-led investigation, the police arrested five suspects: Favour Sunday (25), Ikot Moses (28), Dickson Ighobue Harrison (35), Joshua Adedamola (27), and Daniel Jonathan (26). Further inquiries led to the arrest of Wasiu Arinola (40) in Ibadan, Oyo State, who had purchased the stolen vehicle for ₦500,000. Arinola dismantled the car and sold its parts separately.
Police efforts are ongoing to recover the pistol used in the robbery and to trace other vehicles that may have been stolen and sold by the syndicate. The suspects are in police custody and will be prosecuted accordingly.
The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, reassured residents and visitors that the Command remains dedicated to prioritizing the safety and security of the public. He encouraged citizens to continue providing timely and credible information to the police to aid ongoing crime prevention and enforcement activities.
This case highlights the commitment of the Lagos State Police to combat car theft and related criminal activities in the state.
