The Ogun State Government has declared that the free entry policy at the newly renovated Olumo Rock Tourist Complex will conclude on Saturday, August 23, 2025, following an overwhelming influx of visitors. The free access initiative, launched by Governor Dapo Abiodun shortly after the refurbishment of the site, successfully attracted thousands of residents, tourists, and culture enthusiasts eager to reconnect with the iconic cultural landmark in Abeokuta.

In a statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Tokunbo Talabi, the government described the program as a significant success that rekindled public appreciation for the heritage symbolized by Olumo Rock. The government emphasized that the termination of free entry aligns with priority measures to ensure visitor safety amid growing attendance.

Olumo Rock, a centuries-old natural fortress and a profound emblem of the Egba people, has been transformed from a historic relic into a modern heritage destination through comprehensive renovations. The site now features a world-class arts gallery, eateries offering local and continental cuisine, artisan shops, and new elevators powered amid other enhancements. These upgrades are designed to boost local commerce, empower artisans and youths, and build a thriving cultural and creative economy.
Governor Abiodun highlighted that tourism is a key pillar of the state’s development agenda, capable of creating jobs, attracting investment, and promoting cultural pride and understanding. Local businesses have already benefited from the surge in visitors, which the free entry policy helped to stimulate. The renewed interest in Olumo Rock also honors its spiritual significance as a sanctuary and place for reflection and prayer.
Following August 23, the tourist complex will return to its regular fee-based access, with ticketing available both online and onsite to manage visitor flow and preserve safety standards. The government assures the public that the site will continue to offer a safe, enjoyable, and memorable cultural experience as one of Nigeria’s most visited landmarks.
