Operatives of the Benin Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) conducted a sweeping operation on Thursday, July 31, 2025, leading to the arrest of 47 suspected internet fraudsters in various locations across Benin City, Edo State.

The arrests followed credible intelligence that linked the suspects to internet-related criminal activities. According to official EFCC statements, the suspects were apprehended after coordinated raids at identified hotspots within the metropolis.
During the operation, EFCC operatives recovered an array of luxury vehicles and other valuables believed to be proceeds of the alleged fraudulent schemes. Specifically, a total of 16 exotic cars and numerous mobile phones were confiscated during the arrests.
A spokesperson for the EFCC confirmed that “the suspects were picked up based on actionable intelligence on their alleged involvement in internet fraud. Items recovered from them include 16 exotic cars as well as various phones”.
Authorities say investigations are ongoing, and the 47 suspects will be charged to court as soon as the case files are finalized. The EFCC reaffirmed its commitment to combating cybercrime and called for continued support from the public in the fight against financial crimes.
This development underscores the EFCC’s sustained crackdown on internet fraud in Benin City and the broader fight against economic and financial crimes in Nigeria.
