Popular Anambra-based entrepreneur, Ifesinachi Onyekere—widely known on social media as “Fish Magnet” Onyekere—has been confirmed dead, days after he was abducted by unidentified gunmen. The tragic incident, which has sent shockwaves through the state’s business community and beyond, occurred on Saturday night in Okpuno, a suburb near the Anambra State capital, Awka.
Eyewitnesses reported that the heavily armed assailants stormed Mr. Onyekere’s residence in Ezinifite Village at approximately 10:30p.m. on July 26. The gunmen, who arrived in an ash-coloured Lexus SUV, forced their way into the compound, shot the victim in the leg, and abducted him using his navy blue Toyota Corolla. The attackers then escaped through bush paths leading toward Nawfia, eluding security personnel.
Sources indicate frantic efforts were made by local volunteers and security outfits to trace the entrepreneur’s whereabouts. The shocking news of his death was confirmed on Wednesday, sparking grief and outrage across social media and among local residents.
Ifesinachi Onyekere was the Managing Director of Fish Magnet, a prominent figure not only in Anambra’s business landscape but also as the son of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) Women Leader. His abduction and subsequent killing mark another grim chapter in the spate of violent attacks and kidnapping cases troubling the region. The police are said to be investigating the case, with family and community members urging anyone with information to contact authorities.
Community leaders and relatives have called for calm and encouraged the public to assist security agencies in their ongoing investigations.
