
The National Universities Commission (NUC) has approved the commencement of seven new academic programmes at Ekiti State University (EKSU), Ado Ekiti, following a successful resource verification exercise conducted in May 2025.
According to a letter dated July 17, 2025, and signed by the Acting Director of Academic Planning, Abubakar M. Girei, on behalf of the Executive Secretary of the Commission, the approval grants EKSU the nod to commence the programmes in full-time mode starting from the 2025/2026 academic session.
The newly approved programmes are:
- B.Eng. Mechatronics Engineering
- B.Sc. Agricultural Economics
- B.Sc. Agricultural Extension and Rural Development
- B.Sc. Animal Science
- B.Sc. Crop Science
- B.Sc. Horticulture and Landscape Management
- B.Sc. Soil Science
The approval was met with excitement across the EKSU community, with management, staff, and students celebrating the milestone as a significant achievement in the university’s drive for academic excellence and relevance.
Reacting to the development, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Joseph Babatola Ayodele, described the approval as “a dream come true,” noting that it reflects the university’s commitment to expanding academic frontiers and addressing modern societal needs. He commended the dedication and hard work of both academic and administrative staff in achieving the feat.
Professor Ayodele also expressed deep appreciation to the Governor of Ekiti State and Visitor to the university, His Excellency Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, the Chancellor, Dr. Tunji Olowolafe, and the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Governing Council, Prof. Akin Oyebode, for their unwavering support in positioning EKSU as a globally competitive institution.
