Popular Nollywood actress Dayo Amusa has broken her silence over a false claim circulated by a content creator, who alleged she is HIV positive. The rumor, which spread on social media days ago, has sparked significant backlash and concern from Amusa’s fans and colleagues.
Amusa, who had previously shared her own negative HIV test result online to encourage health awareness, expressed outrage over the unverified and damaging report. “Some years ago, I posted my HIV test result to motivate my fans to know their status. Now, a content creator has turned around to falsely claim that I am HIV positive,” Amusa stated.
She warned that she would seek justice, using legal channels if necessary, to hold the individual accountable. “My family and friends read these lies. The person behind this will serve as a scape goat and a lesson to others who spread unverified information,” she asserted.
Amusa also used the opportunity to highlight the persistent challenge of misinformation online. She called on content creators, bloggers, and the wider public to respect privacy and only share verified news, especially when individuals’ reputations and mental health are at stake.
In Nigeria, online defamation and cyberbullying cases have become increasingly common, with several celebrities taking legal steps against false rumors and character assassination. Experts warn that publishing unconfirmed reports not only damages reputations but can have lasting emotional and social consequences.
As the situation unfolds, fans and advocates are rallying behind Amusa, urging stronger regulatory measures to combat fake news and promote ethical digital practices.
