Barbra Banda, captain of Zambia’s Copper Queens, has publicly apologized to Zambians following their 5-0 loss to the Super Falcons of Nigeria in the recent Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) fixture. Below is Banda’s statement:
To the people of Zambia,
On behalf of the Copper Queens, I sincerely apologize for our performance in our recent WAFCON match against Nigeria. We understand the disappointment a 5-0 result brings, and know we did not meet the high standards you expect from us.
Your steadfast support and belief in us—even in tough moments like this—means everything. Representing Zambia on the international scene is both an honor and a responsibility, and we feel deeply the weight of your expectations.
We are determined to learn from this setback and channel it into greater effort and improvement. Our loss to Nigeria has only strengthened our resolve to work harder, learn from our mistakes, and fight to make you proud in our future matches.
Thank you for standing with us. We promise to work tirelessly to make the Copper Queens a team that inspires pride in every Zambian. With your continued encouragement, we aim to rise stronger and deliver performances worthy of your support.
Sincerely,
Barbra Banda
Captain, Copper Queens
