
In a moving ceremony held today, the Ogun State Government and the people of Ijebuland gathered in solemn reflection to honour the remarkable life and enduring legacy of His Royal Majesty, Oba (Dr.) Sikiru Kayode Adetona, GCON, Ogbagba II. The revered Awujale and Paramount Ruler of Ijebuland, Oba Adetona’s reign spanned an unprecedented 65 years, marking him as one of Nigeria’s longest-serving monarchs.
Oba Adetona was celebrated as a symbol of wisdom, courage, and service—a beacon of integrity and visionary leadership. His influence shaped not only Ijebuland but extended across Ogun State and Nigeria, where he championed peace, unity, and the advancement of his people. Throughout his reign, Kabiyesi was known for his unwavering support, both personal and institutional, offering prayers in times of difficulty and openly endorsing progressive causes and leadership.



In recognition of his immense contributions, the Ogun State Government prioritized several legacy projects in his honour, including:
- The completion of the Ijebu Ode–Mojoda–Epe Road, enhancing regional connectivity and economic growth.
- The renaming of the Tai Solarin College of Education to Oba Sikiru Adetona College of Science and Technology, reflecting his commitment to education and youth empowerment.
- The successful passage of the monarch burial rights reform bill, a testament to his advocacy for cultural preservation and social reform.
As the state bids its final farewell, prayers are offered for the peaceful repose of Kabiyesi’s soul. The government and people of Ogun State reaffirm their commitment to upholding the noble ideals and visionary principles championed by Oba Adetona throughout his illustrious life.
