Ogun First Lady Unveils Endoscopy Machine at OOUTH, Boosts Healthcare

SAGAMU, OGUN STATE – In a significant boost to healthcare services in Ogun State, Mrs. Bamidele Abiodun, wife of the State Governor, today officially launched the first Endoscopy machine at the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH) in Sagamu. The initiative, championed through her pet project, Ajose Foundation, marks a crucial milestone in the state’s commitment to enhancing medical infrastructure.

The state-of-the-art Endoscopy machine was a donation facilitated by Mrs. Abiodun’s enduring partnership with Naykas Healthcare Incorporated, a US-based medical team renowned for its annual provision of free medical care and surgeries to indigent citizens across Ogun State.

Speaking at the unveiling, Mrs. Abiodun lauded the consistent efforts of the Naykas medical team, highlighting their instrumental role in augmenting OOUTH’s capabilities through regular donations of modern equipment. She emphasized the importance of early medical intervention, urging citizens to seek diagnosis and treatment promptly.

Dr. Musbau Kasumu, the lead of the visiting medical team, articulated the transformative impact of the new Endoscopy machine. He stated that the advanced technology would significantly enhance the hospital’s diagnostic prowess, enabling medical professionals to conduct precise examinations and treatments of internal organs and tissues, thereby improving patient outcomes. Dr. Kasumu also revealed the team’s impressive surgical outreach, having performed 41 various surgeries and 42 cataract surgeries within two days, with an ambitious target of approximately 200 procedures during their one-week stay.

On her part, Dr. Bunmi Fatungase, the Chief Medical Director of OOUTH, affirmed that the initiative aligns seamlessly with the Ogun State government’s broader vision to strengthen medical infrastructure and ensure quality healthcare access for all, particularly the less privileged. Dr. Fatungase expressed profound gratitude to the donors, stressing that the Endoscopy machine is vital for the early detection of conditions like colon cancer, which is curable when diagnosed promptly. She added that the machine is capable of both diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures.

In addition to the activities at OOUTH, diagnosis and treatment of various diseases are also concurrently being offered at Idera Hospital, Aiyepe, Ijebu, and Ayepe Central Mosque, extending the reach of these crucial medical interventions to indigent residents in surrounding communities.
