
Abeokuta, Nigeria – The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), has once again showcased its prowess in innovation and entrepreneurial development with an impressive outing at the recently concluded 2025 Enactus Nigeria National Competition. The event, held at the Civic Centre, Lagos on July 2nd and 3rd, brought together student teams from across Nigeria to present their sustainable development projects.
Celebrating the team’s commendable performance, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Babatunde Kehinde, represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Professor Olukayode Akinyemi, extended warm commendations to the FUNAAB Enactus Team. He lauded their creativity, resilience, and excellent representation of the University on a prominent national platform.
Professor Akinyemi emphasized that the team’s achievements were a clear reflection of FUNAAB’s strategic commitment to nurturing solution-oriented graduates equipped with strong entrepreneurial and innovative capabilities. He further highlighted the University’s recent national recognition for advancing student employability, affirming its dedication to practical and transformative education.
The FUNAAB Enactus Team, comprising students from various academic departments, presented two impactful projects at the competition. The first, Apem Souppreme, is a nutrient-rich soup mix designed to mitigate post-harvest losses and combat malnutrition. The second, EcoCell, is an innovative green battery solution that leverages recycling and value-chain enhancement for sustainable energy.
The team’s dedication and ingenuity earned them a spot among the top four in the highly competitive battery innovation category and an advancement to the opening round in the food innovation track. This strong showing reaffirms FUNAAB’s position as a leading institution for student innovation in Nigeria, even as Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University, Makurdi, emerged as the overall national champion, securing Nigeria’s representation at the 2025 Enactus World Cup in Thailand. The 2025 competition marked 25 years of Enactus Nigeria empowering young leaders.
Miss Temitope Adewole, a recent graduate of the Department of Entrepreneurial Studies and Team Lead for Enactus FUNAAB, expressed profound gratitude to the University Management for its unwavering support, including crucial logistics and accommodation, which facilitated their successful participation. She noted that the competition served as a significant launchpad for future entrepreneurial pursuits, igniting the team’s drive for innovation and social impact.
The event concluded with the presentation of certificates of participation to all team members and a commemorative plaque awarded to FUNAAB, recognizing the University’s steadfast support and contribution to the 2025 Enactus Nigeria National Competition. Dignitaries present included Professor Olusegun Idowu, Director, Institute of Food Security, Environmental Resources and Agricultural Research (IFSERAR), and Mr. Moses Ayanda, Director, Executive Affairs, Vice-Chancellor’s Office, among others. The occasion concluded with a call to further strengthen the University’s entrepreneurship ecosystem, inspiring more students to develop innovative solutions for social good, sustainability, and national transformation.
