She emphasized that the initiative is crucial for fostering community-based security and urged the new officers to recognize that effective security goes beyond mere patrols and checkpoints. According to her, building trust within communities and addressing the root causes of social unrest are essential components of sustainable safety.
Highlighting the importance of inclusivity, Mrs. Balogun called on the committee to incorporate gender sensitivity in their operations and to collaborate closely with social and women-focused organizations. She stressed the need to tackle pressing issues such as domestic violence, human trafficking, and child abuse. The Commissioner reassured that the Makinde-led administration remains committed to supporting the committee through continuous capacity building and moral encouragement.
Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. (Mrs.) Mofoluwake Ibitoye, underscored that security must be anchored on principles of equity and justice. She charged the newly appointed officers to exhibit quality leadership, uphold integrity, and remain vigilant in their duties.
In his acceptance speech, Alhaji Olabanji Abiodun, the Commandant of the Vigilante Committee, expressed deep gratitude to the state government, Governor Seyi Makinde, and the Ministry for their unwavering support. He pledged that the committee would diligently uphold its mandate to enhance safety and order at the local level.
