On Saturday, Victor Osimhen scored his 13th goal in Serie A games this season as Napoli easily defeated Salernitana 2-0.
Osimhen, who is in excellent form this season, has already scored in three straight Serie A contests even as Napoli continues to pursue their first league championship in more than 20 years.
In the match on Saturday, Napoli’s two goals either side of halftime guaranteed they increased their lead at the top of the table to 12 points over second-placed AC Milan and one more point over third-placed Inter.
The Milan teams will play on Sunday in an effort to close the gap with Napoli.
Although gaining the three points on the line was the most important thing, Napoli was far from their best in the away game on Saturday.
But three minutes into first-half stoppage time, Luciano Spalletti’s team took the lead.
Andre-Frank Zombo Anguissa began a darting run to the byline before releasing a beautiful ball to Giovanni Di Lorenzo at the opposite end of the box, who slammed a shot against the post.
Within the first three minutes of the second half, Napoli extended their lead.
Osimhen was there to score the rebound after Eljif Elmas’ lovely curling attempt from the edge of the penalty area hit the post.
The gangly Nigerian striker, who leads Serie A goal scorers chart, nearly added a second by heading Piotr Zielinski low to his right, but Guillermo Ochoa dove to deflect the ball.
Though there were a couple of other chances, the scoreline was intact at 2-0 as Napol increased their lead at the top while Salernitana remain in the 16th spot.
