The All Progressives Congress (APC) has named its Deputy National Chairman (North), Alhaji Bukar Dalori, as the Acting National Chairman after the sudden resignation of Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje on Friday, June 27, 2025.
Ganduje, former Kano State governor, stepped down citing deteriorating health conditions, a move reportedly urged by President Bola Tinubu, though this remains unconfirmed by the presidency. The resignation has sparked significant reactions within the party and the political landscape, with insiders suggesting internal party zoning considerations and preparations for the 2027 elections influenced the decision.
Dalori’s appointment follows the APC constitution’s provision that the Deputy National Chairman acts in the absence of the National Chairman from his zone. The party is expected to hold a national convention in December 2025 to elect a substantive chairman.
This leadership change reflects ongoing efforts within the APC to manage internal tensions and reposition ahead of upcoming electoral challenges.
