ABEOKUTA, OGUN STATE – The Gateway International Airport in Ogun State is now fully prepared to handle both business and leisure operations, a significant step in the state’s drive to become a leading industrial and transportation hub in Nigeria. Governor Dapo Abiodun confirmed the airport’s readiness in a statement on Tuesday, highlighting its world-class infrastructure and strategic importance.
The Governor emphasized the airport’s robust features, which include a Category 9 fire cover, indicating a high level of emergency response capability. The facility also boasts an expansive apron space capable of accommodating large cargo aircraft, underscoring its potential for facilitating significant cargo movement. Furthermore, the airport is equipped with premium VIP lounges, a fully equipped fire service station, and a state-of-the-art control tower, all designed to ensure efficient and safe operations.
According to Governor Abiodun, the airport is a “bold testament” to his administration’s commitment to enhancing economic activity, global connectivity, and creating job opportunities for the people of Ogun State. The state government anticipates that the Gateway International Airport will attract both local and international carriers, boost trade through efficient cargo services, and cater to the increasing demand for corporate and private aviation in the region.
While an official commissioning date for full commercial operations was not provided in the Governor’s statement, the announcement signals that the airport is poised to commence significant activity, potentially drawing new investments and further solidifying Ogun State’s economic position.
