Maiduguri, Borno State – Scores of Boko Haram/Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists were neutralized in the early hours of today during a foiled attempt to infiltrate the Naval Base Lake Chad at Fish Dam.
In a well-coordinated joint land, maritime, and air operation, troops of Operation Hadin Kai fiercely resisted the terrorists who launched their attack around 2:00 AM. The militants aimed to destroy newly acquired Swamp Buggies, vital equipment intended for waterways clearance in Lake Chad, recently procured by the Borno State Government.
Naval Base Lake Chad personnel, reinforced by troops from Baga, engaged the terrorists in a firefight that lasted over two hours. The terrorists were ultimately forced to retreat, failing to gain access to the Swamp Buggies. In addition to the neutralized terrorists, Improvised Explosive Device (IED) materials were recovered.
While the attack was successfully repelled, a minimal incursion by the terrorists resulted in the destruction of an ambulance and two other vehicles. Some personnel also sustained injuries during the engagement.
Following the ground operation, air component platforms are currently conducting pursuit exploitation on the waterways to further decimate the retreating terrorists.
