Abakaliki, Ebonyi State – The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Ebonyi State Command, has arrested a 52-year-old hunter, Ugoegu Nwaji, for allegedly exhuming his late younger brother’s corpse and selling the skull for ₦12,000 for “Okite money rituals.
“Nwaji, a native of Onunwakpu Igbeagu in Izzi Local Government Area, reportedly exhumed the remains of his brother, Ogor Mmboyi, who died two years ago. He then sold the skull to a native doctor, Nwodo Nwenyi, who allegedly needed it for ritualistic purposes for his clients. The skull was recovered at Nwenyi’s shrine at the same address.
Speaking to journalists at the command’s headquarters in Abakaliki, State Commandant Francis Nnadi reiterated the command’s commitment to reducing crime in Ebonyi, asserting that the state is the safest in Nigeria.
He issued a stern warning to criminals to vacate the state or face justice.
In a separate incident, the NSCDC also paraded three suspects accused of economic sabotage against the state government. The trio allegedly conspired to steal 68 bags of cement designated for the ongoing construction of a two-kilometer concrete road in Ekerigwe village, Umuezekoha community, Ezza North Local Government Area.
The suspects include the procurement officer of the construction company, the site security guard, and the driver of the conveying truck. Commandant Nnadi disclosed that only 16 of the 68 stolen bags of cement have been recovered. The suspects will be charged to court for prosecution.
