Fifteen youths from Bayelsa State are currently participating in a two-week Youth Leadership Development Programme at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) in Kuru, Jos.
This initiative aligns with Bayelsa State’s youth policy under the leadership of Governor Senator Douye Diri, aimed at equipping young leaders with essential knowledge, skills, and exposure to excel in today’s dynamic environment.
The selected participants represent diverse youth organizations, including the State Centre for Youth Development, National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Ijaw Youth Council (IYC), Bayelsa Youth Parliament (BYP), Student Union Governments, Federated/Community Youth Presidents, and Youth Development Officers from the Ministry of Youth Development.
Commissioner for Youth Development, Mr. Alfred Kemepado, emphasized that this training is one of many youth and leadership development programmes approved by the Governor to run throughout the year, both locally and internationally. He noted that these programmes reflect a strategic investment in the intellectual growth of Bayelsa youths to shape the state’s future.
At NIPSS, the young leaders are gaining valuable insights into policy formulation, leadership, and nation-building from Nigeria’s premier policy think tank. The programme encourages critical dialogue and prepares participants to assume greater responsibilities in their communities, institutions, and government sectors.
