Adeyemi Federal University of Education Appoints Professor Bayode Popoola as First Substantive Vice Chancellor

Ondo, Nigeria – In a landmark development, the Governing Council of Adeyemi Federal University of Education, Ondo, has officially appointed Professor Bayode Isaiah Popoola as the institution’s first substantive Vice Chancellor.

This historic appointment marks a significant milestone in the university’s journey towards academic excellence and institutional stability.Professor Popoola, a distinguished scholar in Education with a specialization in Guidance and Counselling, brings a wealth of experience from his tenure at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State.

Born in Ikere Ekiti, Ekiti State, 62 years ago, he holds a Bachelor of Education degree in English/Education from Ondo State University (now Ekiti State University), earned in 1987. He further advanced his academic credentials with a Master’s and a PhD in Guidance and Counselling from Obafemi Awolowo University in 1995 and 2003, respectively.

Throughout his illustrious career, Professor Popoola has held several key academic and administrative roles, including Head of the Department of Educational Foundations and Counselling, Deputy Provost of the Postgraduate College, and Dean of the Faculty of Education at Obafemi Awolowo University.

His leadership has been instrumental in shaping educational policies and mentoring the next generation of educators.Beyond academia, Professor Popoola has contributed significantly to national educational development.

He served on the National Examination Council’s School Accreditation Team and has consulted for prominent organizations such as UNICEF, the International Organisation for Migration, and the Federal Ministry of Education.

His governance experience extends to being a member of the Teachers’ Registration Council of Nigeria’s Governing Council.A prolific academic, Professor Popoola has published over 67 scholarly articles in reputable journals, participated in numerous international and local conferences, and supervised more than 27 postgraduate theses.

He is actively involved in several professional bodies, including the Counselling Association of Nigeria, the American Psychological Association, and the Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists in Africa.
