Makinde: The Promise Keeper Transforming Oyo State — Akintola

Ibadan,Oyo state-Chief Niyi Akintola, Senior Advocate of Nigeria and former APC governorship aspirant, has hailed Governor Seyi Makinde as a “promise keeper” whose commitment to Oyo State’s development is unwavering. In an interview , Akintola praised Makinde’s integrity, humility, and remarkable achievements, especially in infrastructure and security.

Describing the governor as an embodiment of “Omoluabi” values, Akintola recalled how Makinde exceeded expectations in Ido Local Government, delivering unprecedented electoral support and fulfilling critical campaign promises. “What he got from Ido was more than from four other local governments combined,” Akintola noted.

Highlighting key infrastructural projects, Akintola emphasized the long-overdue rehabilitation of roads such as the Omi to Ido route—neglected since 1992—and the completion of vital roads linking Owode Housing Estate to Akala Way and Apete to Akufo. He also revealed Makinde’s initiative to integrate Ido Local Government into the Ibadan Circular Road network, addressing a longstanding exclusion.

The Senior Advocate recounted a conversation with a Nigerian engineer visiting from Houston, Texas, who marveled at the scale and quality of Makinde’s road projects, jokingly asking if the governor could be “lent” to other states to replicate his success.

Beyond roads, Akintola commended Makinde’s swift action in funding the Ibadan Urban Flood Management Project, enabling the dredging and concretization of rivers and streams, significantly reducing flood risks in the city.

Security improvements also featured prominently. Akintola highlighted the enhanced presence of Amotekun Corps, Operation Burst, and the Nigeria Police, all supported by the state government with vehicles and resources, making Oyo State safer than ever.

Scoring Governor Makinde 85% on his performance index, Chief Akintola expressed hope for a strong finish to his tenure and prayed for a worthy successor who would build on his legacy.
