Nigerian Info Minister Lauds APRA’s Role in Shaping Africa’s Narrative

MOMBASA, KENYA – Nigeria’s Minister of Information, Alhaji Idris Mohammed, has commended the African Public Relations Association (APRA) for its significant contributions to elevating public relations standards across Africa and championing authentic storytelling.

The Minister’s remarks were delivered at the ongoing APRA conference in Mombasa, Kenya, where he was represented by Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, Director-General of Nigeria’s National Orientation Agency (NOA).

Alhaji Mohammed underscored the critical importance of Africans taking control of their own narratives, stressing that the continent’s true identity and progress can only be effectively communicated when told from an African perspective.

He particularly highlighted APRA’s enduring five-decade legacy in fostering PR excellence and its consistent efforts to empower African communicators.

The prestigious APRA conference, celebrating its 50th anniversary, is themed “Transforming Africa through Safe and Responsible Digital Communication.”

Running from June 8 to June 13, 2025, the gathering brings together PR professionals, thought leaders, and policymakers from across the continent.
