FUNAAB Alumni Boost University’s Agricultural Drive with N4 Million Donation, Major Farm Hub

Abeokuta, Ogun State – The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) is set to significantly enhance its agricultural innovation and community development efforts, thanks to a substantial N4 million donation from its Alumni Association. This generous contribution, presented during a high-level courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Babatunde Kehinde, on Thursday, May 22, 2025, underscores the alumni’s deep commitment to their alma mater’s growth and its core mandate in agricultural advancement.

The Alumni Association, led by its Global President, Mr. Bolaji Gbadamosi, also lauded the University Management for allocating a vast 2,023 acres (approximately 819 hectares) of farmland for the ambitious Alumni Farm Hub project. This initiative, which was officially flagged off on March 26, 2025, as a 2,000-acre project, aims to leverage the extensive expertise of FUNAAB graduates in agribusiness, contributing to the Vice-Chancellor’s agricultural revitalization agenda and reinforcing the university’s position as a leader in its field.

Mr. Gbadamosi confirmed that the allocated land for the Farm Hub has been fully distributed among alumni members and corporate entities. Such has been the demand that a request for additional land has already been submitted to the university. He emphasized the association’s vision to establish a “first-class, self-sustaining agricultural hub” that will serve as a continental benchmark, showcasing modern agricultural practices and technology.

“We are committed to developing a model Farm Hub that leverages modern agricultural practices and technology, showcasing the capacity of our members as true products of a University ranked as the best in Africa in its category,” Mr. Gbadamosi stated, reiterating the alumni’s readiness to offer industry expertise and technical support for this vital partnership. He expressed enthusiasm for further collaborative opportunities that would elevate FUNAAB’s standing and help actualize its vision.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Kehinde expressed profound appreciation for the alumni’s forward-thinking initiative and generous financial support. He hailed the partnership as a crucial step towards fulfilling FUNAAB’s mandate in agricultural innovation and empowering communities. He assured the Alumni Association of the University Management’s unwavering support in fostering an enabling environment for sustainable collaborations.

The Alumni Farm Hub is a significant undertaking, subdivided into 160 units of 12.5 acres each, supported by an extensive 45-kilometer road network. This project aligns with FUNAAB’s broader commitment to driving agricultural development and food security, as evidenced by its various strategic partnerships and initiatives, including collaborations with agricultural firms like Ten Power Farms and Zino Agritech Ltd., and its role in the Federal Government’s “Green Money Project” for youth empowerment in agriculture. The university has also been actively engaged in research and production, recently commissioning a 1-hectare Varietal Trial Farm for soybean and sorghum, and undertaking major harvests across its various farms.
