Abeokuta, Ogun State – The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) has cemented its position as a leading institution in Nigeria, securing the 2nd best-performing federal university ranking for graduate employability in the recently released 2025 Nigeria University Rankings. This significant achievement underscores FUNAAB’s unwavering dedication to equipping its students with the skills and experiences vital for success in today’s dynamic job market.
This impressive ranking was determined by the “Industry Metric” of the Nigeria University Rankings, which comprehensively evaluates critical employability indicators. These include employer reputation, the extent of industry-sponsored research income, and the volume of internship placements facilitated by the university. FUNAAB’s strong performance across these parameters reflects its proactive approach to bridging the gap between academia and industry demands.
With over a million graduates entering Nigeria’s labor market annually, graduate employability has become a crucial benchmark for assessing the true impact of universities. In response to this national imperative, FUNAAB has strategically intensified its collaborations with top-tier companies, meticulously integrated employer feedback into its curriculum development, significantly expanded internship opportunities for its students, and boosted its commitment to industry-driven research initiatives.
These strides have been substantially bolstered by the establishment of the Career Services and Linkages Unit (CSLU) and the strategic implementation of the University’s Benchmarking and Employability Committee. The CSLU, officially launched in December 2023, plays a pivotal role in providing career coaching, fostering industry and alumni connections, and assisting students with internship placements and job opportunities. The Employability and Benchmarking Committee, elevated to a Standing Committee in November 2024, is instrumental in formulating and implementing policies that enhance student career development.
This latest accolade adds to FUNAAB’s growing list of distinctions. The university was recently recognized as the Best University of Agriculture in Africa and 7th Globally in the prestigious Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2024. Furthermore, FUNAAB clinched the Number One position in Nigeria for SDG 2 (Zero Hunger), highlighting its commitment to sustainable development goals.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Babatunde Kehinde, extended his heartfelt congratulations to the dedicated staff, hardworking students, and the entire University Community on this outstanding milestone. He urged all stakeholders to maintain their unwavering commitment to excellence, as FUNAAB strives not only to sustain but to surpass its current achievements in fostering highly employable graduates.
