Port Harcourt, Rivers State – Operatives of the Port Harcourt Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have apprehended 31 individuals suspected of engaging in internet fraud. The arrests occurred on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, following credible intelligence regarding their alleged illicit activities across various locations within Port Harcourt.
According to a statement released by the EFCC on Thursday, the suspects were taken into custody as part of an ongoing effort to combat cybercrime in the region. The operation resulted in the recovery of several items, including vehicles, smartphones, smartwatches, and laptop computers, which are currently being examined for incriminating evidence.
The EFCC affirmed that the arrested individuals would face prosecution in court upon the conclusion of the investigation. This latest operation underscores the commission’s commitment to curbing economic and financial crimes, particularly those involving the digital space.
This arrest follows previous operations by the Port Harcourt Zonal Command, which has recorded significant successes in securing convictions for internet fraud and other financial crimes.
