Group Urges Finance Minister Wale Edun to Enter Ogun 2027 Guber Race

A prominent sociopolitical group, Advocates for Ogun Development and Innovations (AODI), has called on Nigeria’s Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, to contest the 2027 governorship election in Ogun State.

In a statement released by AODI’s Public Relations Officer, Comrade Majeed Adelakun, the group described Edun as “eminently qualified” for the role, citing his extensive experience in finance, banking, investment, and economic development. Adelakun highlighted Edun’s track record, from his days as Executive Director at Investment Banking & Trust Company (IBTC), to founding Denham Management Limited, serving as a two-term Commissioner for Finance in Lagos State, and now overseeing the nation’s economy at the federal level.

“Mr. Edun represents a rare blend of technical expertise and visionary leadership that our state urgently needs at this moment of transition,” Adelakun stated. The group lauded Edun’s commitment to empowering communities, fostering sustainable opportunities, and building lasting prosperity, noting that his values align with the aspirations of Ogun State’s people for inclusive development and responsible governance.

AODI also emphasized Edun’s longstanding loyalty to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his central role in the federal economic team, arguing that his leadership could attract greater federal support and investment to Ogun State.

The statement concluded with a direct appeal: “The time has come for tested and trusted leadership. The time has come for Ogun State to rise. We, the Advocates for Ogun Development and Innovations, believe that Mr. Wale Edun is the right man for this moment. We call on him to run. For posterity. For progress. For the people”.

As the 2027 election cycle approaches, this call adds to the growing political buzz around Mr. Edun, though it remains unclear whether he will heed the call or if the movement has his direct consent.
