ABUJA – A Federal Capital Territory High Court in Apo has dismissed an application by detained former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele, seeking to reclaim a 753-duplex estate in Abuja. Justice Jude Onwuegbuzie presided over the case, rejecting Emefiele’s plea for possession of the multi-billion Naira property.
The estate, located at Plot 109, Cadastral Zone CO9, Lokogoma District, spans 150,462.84 square meters. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had seized the property during its investigation into Emefiele’s tenure, subsequently obtaining an interim forfeiture order from the court. The EFCC alleged the estate was constructed using proceeds of unlawful activities.
Initially, the property was attributed to an unnamed government official. However, following the court’s interim forfeiture order, Emefiele, through his legal team, filed an application asserting his interest in the estate.
