President Tinubu Orders Security Overhaul Amid Escalating Violence

Abuja, Nigeria – President Bola Tinubu has issued a firm directive for an immediate and comprehensive review of national security strategies, demanding urgent action to quell the rising violence in Borno, Benue, Plateau, and Kwara states. The President’s strong stance comes after a lengthy meeting with security chiefs at the State House in Abuja, where he expressed deep concern over the persistent loss of innocent lives.

“Enough is enough,” President Tinubu declared, condemning the repeated targeting of civilians in the affected regions.

National Security Adviser (NSA) Nuhu Ribadu disclosed to reporters that the security chiefs provided a detailed briefing to the President, outlining the recent attacks, casualty figures, and the extent of property damage. He emphasized that President Tinubu has mandated a new, more effective approach to addressing the nation’s security challenges.

Ribadu explained that the President had been actively monitoring the situation and issuing directives even during his recent diplomatic engagements in Paris and London.

“Mr. President gave us the opportunity to brief him again. We provided a thorough update on the ongoing situation,” Ribadu stated. “He has been consistently engaged, providing directives and following developments. Today, we had a detailed and exhaustive briefing, and we received new instructions from him. He is insistent that we intensify our efforts to restore security across the country.”

The NSA highlighted that the President has emphasized the importance of greater collaboration with local councils and state governments in tackling insecurity, acknowledging the critical role they play in community-level security.

“Insecurity often stems from issues at the grassroots level,” Ribadu noted. “We must collaborate with communities, local governments, and governors.

The President has directed us to enhance our coordination with state governors.”Ribadu conveyed the President’s profound concern regarding the ongoing violence. “He is very worried and concerned,” Ribadu said. “He has made it clear that ‘Enough is enough.’ We are committed to restoring peace and security. All relevant security agencies were present at the meeting.”

The NSA also pointed out that attackers are increasingly targeting vulnerable populations through the use of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) and by exploiting ungoverned territories.

This directive from President Tinubu signals a renewed effort to address the persistent security challenges facing Nigeria, with a focus on enhanced intergovernmental cooperation and a more proactive approach to protecting civilian lives.
