Abuja, Nigeria – The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olukayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, has celebrated Sergeant Peter Theophilus Tanko for his exceptional academic achievement in the People’s Republic of China. Sergeant Tanko, attached to the INTERPOL Section of the Force Criminal Investigations Department (FCID), was received by the IGP at the Force Headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday, April 22, 2025.
Sergeant Tanko successfully completed a five-year law programme in China under a government-sponsored scholarship. His academic journey included a mandatory one-year Chinese language course at Nanjing Normal University, followed by a Bachelor’s Degree in Law at Jiangsu Police Institute.
Demonstrating outstanding dedication, Sergeant Tanko emerged as the best graduating student at the Institute and had the honour of delivering the valedictory speech on behalf of all international students during the convocation ceremony in June 2023.
IGP Egbetokun lauded Sergeant Tanko’s discipline and academic excellence, emphasizing that his achievement brings immense pride to the Nigeria Police Force and the nation. He affirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting officers in their pursuit of knowledge, capacity building, and professional development, highlighting the potential within the Force.
The IGP further called on officers across all commands and formations to take inspiration from Sergeant Tanko’s exemplary conduct by prioritizing excellence in their service and personal development. He stressed that the Force’s progress is dependent on both its operational capabilities and the intellectual growth and international exposure of its personnel.
