LAUTECH to Graduate 11,528 Students, 94 with First Class Honors

Ogbomoso—Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) will graduate 11,528 students at its 17th convocation ceremony on Tuesday, April 22, with 94 students earning First Class honors.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Razaq Olatunde Rom Kalilu announced this at a pre-convocation press conference held in the A.M. Salau Senate Building. The event also marks the university’s 35th anniversary.

The university will confer bachelor’s degrees on 8,102 graduates across 12 faculties, with 2,086 graduating with Second Class Upper, 3,494 with Second Class Lower, 756 with Third Class, and 12 with a Pass. Seven Nursing Science graduates earned Distinction, 1,741 Upper Credit, and 145 Lower Credit. Additionally, 133 students from the College of Medicine passed in Medicine and Surgery.

Adeladun Badirat Adeduntan of the Department of Science Laboratory Technology emerged as the overall best graduating student with a CGPA of 4.86. She was also the chairperson of the Students’ Union Caretaker Committee in the 2023/2024 session.

Professor Kalilu highlighted the full accreditation of all academic programs by the National Universities Commission (NUC) and the introduction of six new academic programs: Theatre Arts, Psychology, Mass Communication, Linguistics, Yoruba, and Political Science, along with five new programs on the Open and Distance Learning (ODL) platform.

LAUTECH is expanding its global partnerships with institutions like the University of Kentucky and University of Utah (USA), the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, and the Bayer Foundation (Germany), leading to the establishment of the Humboldt Research Hub Centre for Emerging and Re-emerging Infectious Diseases.

The university is also collaborating with the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) to sponsor postgraduate students and with LUSHY Agricultural Limited on Greenhouse Technology and Drone Farming.

LAUTECH researchers have secured grants from the TETFund Institution Based Research program, with Professors J.A. Badmus and E.A. Adebayo winning National Research Fund grants for projects in herbal medicine and mushroom-based immune boosters. Professor Kalilu’s team also developed ceramic glazes from horticultural and animal waste.

In sports, LAUTECH athletes won 4 gold, 1 silver, and 5 bronze medals at the 11th All Africa University Games (FASU), and two students qualified for the World University Games in Germany in July 2025.

Professor Kalilu noted LAUTECH’s top ranking as a state university in Nigeria by the 2025 Times Higher Education World University Ranking and its second-place national ranking in the 2025 Interdisciplinary Science Ranking (ISR).

The Vice-Chancellor appealed for stakeholder support to address the need for infrastructure expansion, improved pedagogy, and further internationalization.

The week-long convocation and founder’s day celebrations will include a documentary on LAUTECH at 35, commemorative tree planting, a research fair, cultural performances, a convocation lecture, alumni day, and religious services.
