Customer killed Security Guard

The Rivers State Police Command has arrested a customer for allegedly beating a security guard, Ifeanyi Ani, to death at an eatery in Rumukrushi, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of the state.

It was reported that Ani was killed on Thursday, March 27, 2025, following an altercation with the customer. According to Punch, the incident occurred after the customer parked his car at the eatery, leaving his headlights on. Ani approached the car to ask the owner to dim the lights but found the man’s wife inside. While explaining the request to the woman, the customer emerged and questioned the security guard about what he was discussing with his wife.

An argument ensued when Ani tried to clarify that he was only asking for the headlights to be dimmed. Sources said the situation escalated as the customer allegedly punched Ani multiple times, causing him to collapse and eventually die. “It was like a movie. People tried to intervene, but the man refused to stop and kept hitting the security guard. I think the deceased was from Enugu State,” a source stated.

Following the incident, the management of the eatery apprehended the suspect and handed him over to the Mini-Okoro Police Division. Speaking on the matter, a rights group, the Centre for Basic Rights Protection and Accountability Campaign, stated that the deceased’s sister, Chinaza Ani, had approached them alongside their partner organisation, ‘Lawyers Watch for Justice International Initiative,’ in search of justice. However, the National Coordinator of the centre, Prince Wiro, disclosed that Chinaza later asked the organisation to hold off on action as the family planned to meet with certain individuals regarding the case.

The spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the incident and the suspect’s arrest. “Yes, I can confirm the incident. The man has been arrested and is in our custody. An investigation is ongoing,” she said.
