IGP Warns Criminals, Commends Operatives for Recovered Arms in Recent Operations
The Nigeria Police Force has achieved significant breakthroughs in its fight against kidnapping and gun-related crimes, with successful operations carried out by the Abia State and Nasarawa State Police Commands.These efforts have led to the rescue of kidnapped victims, the neutralization of notorious criminals, and the recovery of firearms and ammunition.



On March 9, 2025, four individuals were abducted while driving a Toyota RAV4 along New Umuahia Road, Obingwa, Abia State. Acting on credible intelligence, the tactical team of the Abia State Police Command traced the kidnappers to a hideout in Osokwa, Osisioma Local Government Area on March 14, 2025. Upon arrival at the three-bedroom bungalow, the operatives encountered heavy gunfire from the kidnappers. However, superior firepower from the police resulted in the neutralization of six members of the syndicate and the safe rescue of all four victims. Two AK-47 rifles, six magazines, and thirty-four rounds of live ammunition were recovered during the operation. The rescued victims were immediately taken to a police hospital for medical attention.
In another operation on the same day in Nasarawa State, a joint security team comprising police operatives, Nigerian Army personnel, and local vigilante groups neutralized a notorious kidnapper identified as Abdullahi, alias “Honour.” The suspect had been on the wanted list for multiple crimes and was intercepted near Akwanga Central Mosque while attempting to flee on a motorcycle. During his arrest attempt, Abdullahi brandished a weapon but was swiftly subdued by security operatives. A search revealed a Beretta pistol and twelve rounds of 9mm live ammunition. One accomplice managed to escape with gunshot wounds, prompting an ongoing manhunt by security forces.
Inspector-General of Police Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun commended the professionalism and collaboration displayed by operatives during these operations. He reiterated his stern warning to criminal elements across Nigeria to desist from their activities or face decisive action. The IGP emphasized that these successes highlight the resilience of the Nigeria Police Force in combating kidnapping, gunrunning, and other criminal activities. He assured citizens that the Force remains committed to dismantling criminal networks and ensuring public safety.These recent operations underscore the determination of law enforcement agencies in Nigeria to protect communities and uphold security nationwide.
