The Oyo State Government has begun disbursing N555 million in bursary awards to 2,950 students across Nigeria. The initiative, championed by Governor Seyi Makinde, aims to support students in Law Schools, Medical Schools, Aviation Schools, and final-year programs at universities and polytechnics.Rigorous Selection Process Ensures Deserving BeneficiariesVictor Olojede, the Senior Special Assistant on Students’ Affairs, explained that the selection process began in March 2024 and involved rigorous screening of over 3,000 applicants. Ultimately, 2,950 students met the criteria and qualified for the bursary.
The beneficiaries include 105 medical and clinical students, four maritime and aviation students, and a large number of final-year students from polytechnics and universities. Olojede emphasized Governor Makinde’s commitment to education and his dedication to reviving the bursary program, which had been previously neglected.
Olawale Atilola, Chairman of the State Scholarship Board, lauded the bursary as proof of Governor Makinde’s investment in education. He encouraged students to use the funds wisely, prioritizing educational expenses.
Beneficiaries expressed their sincere appreciation for the financial support. Yetunde Ayoola, a recipient, shared that the bursary would significantly ease her financial burden. Akanbi Mayowa noted that the funds would help cover his final-year school fees. A medical student from the University of Ibadan described the initiative as timely and impactful, especially for covering final-year and induction fees.
