FUNAAB Library Undergoes Major Transformation to Enhance Research and Learning

The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) Library has undergone a remarkable transformation, introducing new resources, facilities, and services to enhance research and learning experiences for both staff and students. The University Librarian, Professor Kehinde Owolabi, shared details of these developments, highlighting their significance in fostering academic excellence.

As part of its commitment to advancing research, the library has subscribed to over 60 academic databases. These resources are expected to contribute significantly to the quality of research conducted at the university and improve the research output of staff. In addition, students and staff can now conveniently access the library’s holdings on their mobile devices, enabling seamless access to information anytime, anywhere.

The library’s physical infrastructure has also been upgraded to create a more conducive environment for learning. Modern chairs, tables, and circulation desks equipped with advanced technologies, including RFID machines, have been installed. These enhancements aim to make the library a welcoming and technology-driven space for all users.

To further streamline access to resources, the university has adopted a Library Management System (LMS). This system will simplify the process of locating and utilizing library materials, reflecting the institution’s commitment to leveraging technology for academic support.

Professor Owolabi noted that the library recently organized its second book exhibition, showcasing its commitment to promoting a reading culture and fostering intellectual curiosity. Additionally, new books and journals spanning various disciplines have been acquired to ensure that users have access to diverse and up-to-date materials.

The library also achieved a milestone by successfully hosting 28 programs, reinforcing its role as a center for academic and social engagement within the university community. Furthermore, FUNAAB’s research activities are now globally accessible through the DSpace platform, increasing the visibility of the university’s academic contributions.

The University Librarian expressed appreciation to the Vice Chancellor, Professor Kehinde Olusola, and the university management for their unwavering support and commitment to the library’s development. Professor Owolabi acknowledged that these achievements would not have been possible without their strategic vision and dedication to creating an enabling environment for scholarship.
