On Friday, operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) caused a commotion at the National Assembly Complex in Abuja by manhandling two senior staff members, John Nnadi of the Senate Committee on Petroleum (Downstream) and Chris Odoh, a Deputy Director.
The incident occurred when the DSS personnel demanded identification cards from the staff members as they moved from the Senate Building to the White House, which connects the Senate and the House of Representatives buildings.
An eyewitness reported that Nnadi and Odoh were stopped by the security agents for not identifying themselves.
The situation escalated when the two staff members, frustrated by the DSS personnel’s insistence, attempted to force their way through, resulting in their rough handling and assault by the operatives.

Attempts by bystanders to intervene only aggravated the situation, leading to the armed DSS agents dragging Nnadi and Odoh to their office in the White House Complex.
The incident drew the attention of other National Assembly staff, including employees from Money Deposit Banks and Senate correspondents, who expressed their sympathy.
The situation prompted a strong response from National Assembly staff members, including the Senate mace bearer, who marched to the DSS office demanding the immediate release of their colleagues.
To restore order, Divisional Police Officer Alex Annagu and Deputy Clerk to the Senate (Legislative) Mrs. Ilobah Isabella arrived at the scene and urged everyone to return to their offices.
