Kaduna State Governor Senator Uba Sani received Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex, on a significant date, exactly 68 years after his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, visited the state in 1959.
Queen Elizabeth II was welcomed by the late Premier of the defunct Northern region, Sir Ahmadu Bello, during her visit.
Prince Harry, accompanied by his wife Meghan, arrived in Nigeria to promote the Invictus Games, an initiative he founded to support the rehabilitation of wounded and sick service members and veterans, including Nigerian soldiers involved in a 14-year conflict against Islamic extremists.
During their visit, the royal couple aimed to meet with wounded soldiers and their families to boost morale and well-being.
Nigerian officials viewed this engagement as a significant opportunity for the recovery of Nigerian soldiers.

Welcoming Prince Harry to the Sir Kashim Ibrahim Government House in Kaduna, Governor Uba Sani expressed his delight at receiving him in the state, which he described as the “heartbeat of Northern Nigeria.”
Sani commended Prince Harry for his courage, perseverance, compassion, and selfless service to the United Kingdom and humanity.
Highlighting the historical and strategic significance of Kaduna, Governor Sani emphasized its role in Nigeria’s British relations and its importance as the political and cultural capital of Northern Nigeria.
Prince Harry expressed his focus on visiting wounded soldiers and families of those killed in action, emphasizing the importance of supporting military personnel’s welfare and recovery.
Nigeria’s participation in the 2023 Invictus Games prompted Prince Harry’s visit, reflecting the country’s commitment to rehabilitation programs for injured military personnel.
Air Vice Marshal Abidemi Marquis, the Director of Sports at Defence Headquarters, highlighted the positive impact of the Invictus Games on Nigeria’s soldiers, noting improvements in their mental health and self-esteem as a result of the recovery program.
