Nigerian Governors and Senators Rally Hope and Unity in Easter Messages

As Christians celebrate Easter, leaders across Nigeria, including governors, senators, and other prominent figures, have urged citizens not to lose hope amidst the economic challenges facing the country.

In their Easter messages, they expressed confidence in the economic reforms spearheaded by President Bola Tinubu, believing that these reforms would alleviate hardship soon.

President Tinubu, upon assuming office on May 29, 2023, took significant steps such as abolishing the costly fuel subsidy, which had previously drained the country’s revenue. Although this removal led to a surge in fuel prices and subsequent impacts on transportation and household expenses, it also increased funds allocated to states and local governments.

Additionally, the Tinubu administration unified the exchange rate and pledged to double the annual economic growth rate to at least six percent. These reforms aim to create an environment conducive to investment, job creation, and economic prosperity.

In his Easter message, Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum called on Christians to pray for President Tinubu’s success in governing Nigeria, emphasizing the importance of collective prayers for the nation’s development.

Similarly, Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno urged Nigerians not to be discouraged by the economic downturn but to remain hopeful for a better future. He encouraged unity, support, and prayers among citizens.

Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun echoed this sentiment, urging Nigerians to have faith in the country’s leadership while reflecting on the significance of Easter’s teachings of love and compassion.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State called on residents to emulate Christ’s teachings by reducing commodity prices as the naira appreciates against the dollar. He highlighted recent economic improvements, expressing optimism that hardship would soon diminish.

In Delta State, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori urged citizens to exhibit love and make sacrifices for the nation’s unity, peace, and progress.

Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State called on people to show more love during the Easter period, emphasizing forgiveness and reconciliation.

Abia State Governor Alex Otti reiterated his administration’s commitment to improving citizens’ welfare, emphasizing the importance of sacrifice for the greater good.

Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki encouraged Christians not to lose hope despite economic challenges, emphasizing the potential for unity and growth.

Other governors, including those from Enugu, Anambra, and Kwara states, emphasized the importance of love, sacrifice, and unity in their Easter messages.

The Southern Senators’ Forum urged Nigerians to embrace unity, compassion, and solidarity during Easter celebrations, commending President Tinubu’s leadership.

Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele called on citizens to remain hopeful, emphasizing the need for collective efforts in overcoming challenges.

Various other leaders, including former House of Representatives member Shina Peller, emphasized love, peace, and sacrifice during Easter celebrations, urging citizens to spread positivity and goodwill.
