A 25-year-old man, Babuga Lede, has been remanded in the correctional center by an Ekiti State Magistrate’s Court for allegedly killing two traditional rulers in the state.
The victims, the Elesun of Esun Ekiti, Oba David Babatunde Ogunsakin, and the Olumojo of Imojo Ekiti, Oba Samuel Olusola, were fatally attacked by gunmen along the Oke Ako – Irele Road on January 29.
Fortunately, the Alara of Ara (Ikole), Oba Sunday Fatoba, managed to escape the assault.
During the arraignment on Tuesday, the police prosecutor, Yomi Osuolale, stated, “there is probable cause to order the remand of the defendant at the Correctional Centre in Ado Ekiti.” Osuolale accused Lede of conspiracy to kidnap, attempted murder, and murder of the two traditional rulers.
He added, “The defendant also attempted to kidnap Oba Samuel Adebayo Fatoba and Bamidele Ibikunle Joseph (driver).

The offence is punishable under Sections 280, 241, and 234 of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State 2021, within Ekiti Magisterial District on the 29th day of January 2024.”
Osuolale informed the court that Lede was apprehended in Ikole Ekiti on January 29, with weapons, and that the case file had been sent to the Ekiti State Director of Public Prosecution for legal advice.
The Magistrate, Olubunmi Bamidele, ordered the defendant to be remanded at the Ado Ekiti Correctional Custody pending legal advice from the DPP. The case was adjourned till April 24 for further hearing.
