Sokoto Approves 100% Increase in NYSC Corps Members’ Allowance

Governor Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto of Sokoto State has approved a 100% increment in the allowance of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members deployed to the state.

The allowance has been raised from N5,000 to N10,000 for the duration of their one-year mandatory service.

Governor Aliyu made this announcement on Tuesday during the joint orientation exercise for Sokoto and Zamfara states at the NYSC temporary orientation camp in Farfaru, Sokoto, while welcoming Batch ‘A’ stream 1 corps members posted to both states.

Expressing his rationale for the increment, the governor cited the current economic challenges and underscored the significance of the NYSC scheme to national and state development.

Additionally, he personally donated N10,000 to each corps member undergoing orientation in Sokoto and Zamfara states as a gesture of welcome.

Governor Aliyu urged the corps members to uphold good behavior, embrace national unity, and treat all citizens as fellow Nigerians, transcending ethnic and religious differences.

He pledged continuous support from his administration to ensure the success of the NYSC scheme, emphasizing the importance of providing a conducive environment for the corps members’ security and welfare.

Muhammad Bello, the Chairperson of the NYSC Governing Board and Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Youths, Sports, and Social Development, stressed the importance of discipline during the camp activities, highlighting the merit-based recognition accorded outstanding corps members.

The state Coordinator of the NYSC, Mr. Usman Yaro, expressed gratitude to Governor Aliyu for his support and acknowledged the efforts of various stakeholders, including security agencies, in facilitating the smooth conduct of the orientation exercise.

The event culminated in the administration of national and NYSC oaths to the corps members by the state Chief Judge, Justice Muhammad Saidu Sifawa, represented by Justice Ibrahim Tambuwal.
