Tragically, a football player lost his life after being struck by lightning during a match in Indonesia. The distressing incident was captured on video, revealing the moment the player was struck by the bolt of lightning at Siliwangi Stadium in Bandung, West Java.
The player has been identified as Septain Raharja, aged 35, who was participating in a friendly game between 2 FLO FC Bandung and FBI Subang. Reports from local outlet PRFM News indicate that initially, he was still breathing shortly after the incident. However, despite being rushed to the hospital, he sadly passed away shortly afterward.
The shocking video of the incident has spread rapidly across social media, and fans and players from around the world have expressed their condolences. One user shared their personal connection to the fear of natural disasters during sports events, recalling the traumatic experience of the San Francisco “Quake of ’89” that disrupted the Baseball World Series. Another user was left speechless, expressing astonishment at the unfortunate odds of a direct hit by lightning.
Regrettably, this is not the first time such an incident has occurred in Indonesia. Just twelve months ago, a young football player in Bojonegoro, East Java, was also struck by lightning during the Soeratin U-13 Cup in 2023. Fortunately, medical assistance was able to revive the player after he suffered a cardiac arrest. He regained consciousness approximately 20 minutes later.
