Few weeks to the general elections in Nigeria, the independent national electoral commission ( INEC) has declared that it will not use the University Lecturers as returning officers during the 2023 elections.
This declaration was contained in a statement signed by Mr Festus Okoye, National Commissioner & Chairman Information and Voter Education Committee of the electoral body.
According to Okoye, : “INEC has decided that they will not use University Lecturers as returning officers for 2023 Election. INEC will use only their staff for the exercise.
Rather than using the University Lecturers, INEC has adopted the use of National Situation Room and Collation Centre.
“INEC today Inaugurated the Committee for NATIONAL SITUATION ROOM AND COLLATION CENTRE FOR THE 2023 GENERAL ELECTION” Okoye stated.
The Situation Room and Collation Centre Committee under the leadership of Mrs May Agbamuche -Mbu who is a National Commissioner has been inaugurated by the Chairman of the Commission, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, who charged it to commence work in earnest and to discharge its responsibilities diligently, ValidViewNetwork reports.
