According to the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), 12 accident victims were found trapped inside a commercial bus that had collided with a fuel tanker at the Otedola Bridge in Lagos.
In a statement issued by the Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department of LASTMA, Mr. Taofiq Adebayo, the General Manager, Mr. Bolaji Oreagba, verified this.
Oreagba said that the driver of a commercial bus (KJA 364 YA) and an additional 12 passengers were trapped in the collision, which happened Tuesday at 5 p.m.
According to him, a preliminary investigation showed that the bus’s brakes failed when it was moving by Secretariat before Oando Filling Station inside Otedola Bridge, causing it to crash with a trailer.
One of the accident victims, according to Oreagba, passed away instantaneously, while the other injured were transferred to emergency responders who were dispatched by LASTMA authorities to the accident scene.
However, the General Manager of LASTMA urged drivers of commercial buses, in particular, to always check that their vehicles were roadworthy before setting out on any voyage inside or beyond the state. (NAN)
